New Delhi, July 1: The Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, emphasized the need for global unity against terrorism during a recent interview. His remarks came ahead of the 50th anniversary of Israel’s anti-terrorism operation, “Operation Entebbe,” which took place in Uganda.
Ambassador Azar stated, “We are witnessing continuous attempts to misuse international norms. Innocent lives are harmed as political agendas are pursued through misleading means. It is crucial for India, Israel, and the entire world to stand firm against terrorism.”
He reflected on the challenges faced in recent years, describing them as some of the longest and toughest conflicts in history, triggered by a brutal terrorist attack on October 7. “We had to ensure that such an incident never happens again, which is why we initiated a comprehensive campaign,” he added.
The ambassador highlighted that “the Entebbe operation instilled confidence that terrorism can be defeated. The lessons learned from Entebbe remain vital for many countries today.”
He noted the growing cooperation between India and Israel, referencing several agreements signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel earlier this year, which are now being implemented on the ground.
Azar also mentioned the recent visit of Amir Baram, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense and retired Major General, to India. During this visit, significant programs aimed at strengthening defense capabilities between the two nations were discussed.
“I am confident that as we continue to work together, the solutions and benefits will be advantageous for the people of both India and Israel,” he concluded.
Earlier, the Israeli ambassador participated in a program in New Delhi commemorating “50 Years of Operation Entebbe.”
