Bayern made a strong start to the match, earning a penalty in the 16th minute after a foul on Sacha Boey. Kane converted the penalty to give Bayern the lead. This was Kane’s 31st consecutive successful penalty for club and country.

At the beginning of the second half, in the 51st minute, Michael Olise took advantage of a defensive error to score the second goal, putting Bayern in a commanding position.

However, Wiesbaden made a remarkable comeback. Captain Fatih Kaya scored with a sliding volley in the 64th minute off a fine cross from Niklas May. Just five minutes later, Kaya struck again, heading in from a Moritz Flotho flick to level the score at 2-2.

In the 76th minute, Bayern were awarded another penalty, but this time Kane’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Florian Stritzel. It was Kane’s first penalty miss since the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals.

With the match heading towards extra time, Kane scored the winning goal with a header from a Josip Stanisic cross in the fourth minute of injury time, saving his team from a possible upset.

Since winning their 20th title in the 2019-20 season, Bayern Munich have not progressed beyond the quarter-finals of the German Cup. The draw for the second round of the tournament will be held on Sunday.
