Aizawl, February 21: In a significant operation, Assam Rifles seized methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately ₹11.85 crores and arrested four traffickers in Mizoram. Among the arrested are three citizens from Myanmar.
According to a defense spokesperson, the operation was launched based on intelligence regarding the movement of the banned methamphetamine tablets. A mobile vehicle check post was established on Friday night in Kakichhuah village, Longtlai district.
During the operation, soldiers intercepted four suspects arriving from Myanmar by boat via the Koladain River. A search revealed nearly 80,000 methamphetamine tablets, weighing a total of 3.952 kilograms, with an estimated international market value of ₹11.85 crores.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lairamlaina (40), a resident of Longtlai district, and three Myanmar nationals: Chaimoungthen (17), Thanlaing (17), and Thanlaigwon (15). The seized narcotics and all suspects have been handed over to the Bungtlang police station in Longtlai district for further legal action.
Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to preventing illegal drug trafficking along the India-Myanmar border and ensuring peace and security in the region.
Methamphetamine tablets, commonly referred to as ‘yaba’ or ‘party drugs,’ are a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine. Known as ‘crazy drugs,’ they are banned in India.
Mizoram shares a 510-kilometer unfenced international border with Myanmar and a 318-kilometer mountainous and sensitive border with Bangladesh, making it vulnerable to international smuggling.
Myanmar’s Chin state is considered a major hub for the trafficking of drugs, foreign cigarettes, betel nuts, and other illegal goods, which are smuggled into Mizoram’s six districts: Champhai, Siaha, Longtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip.
