Medininagar, May 10: A former Maoist commander was brutally murdered in Palamu district, Jharkhand. Police discovered a body in the Belhara area of the Pandu police station on Saturday. The deceased was identified on Sunday as the notorious ex-Naxalite, Jaganarayan Yadav, also known as Vishal Yadav.
At one point, the Jharkhand government had announced a reward of five lakh rupees for information leading to his capture. Reports indicate that Vishal Yadav was originally from Gurdi village in Chhatarpur, Palamu. He had attended a family wedding in the Pandu area.
The discovery of his body caused a sensation, but immediate identification was hindered due to severe facial injuries. Family members recognized him after images circulated on social media. Given the condition of the body, police suspect he was killed in a particularly gruesome manner using stones.
Pandu police station chief, Bigesh Kumar Rai, confirmed that Jaganarayan had a history with Naxal activities. He was active as a commander in the Maoist organization during 2015-16 and faced several serious charges related to Naxalite incidents.
After his arrest, he spent a significant time in jail. Upon release, he returned to mainstream life. According to police, family members are arriving at the station to formally identify the body. Based on their written applications and statements, police will initiate further legal action.
Currently, authorities are investigating whether this murder was the result of a personal vendetta or if an organized gang is involved.
