Bengaluru, February 22: Former Nagamangala MLA Suresh Gowda has sustained serious injuries in a car accident. The incident occurred late at night near Bansalalu on Kappa Road in Mandya Taluk.
In the accident, both the driver and Suresh Gowda suffered broken arms and were rushed to the hospital. They are currently receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. Gowda was returning from an event in Hosagavi, Kappa, when the accident took place.
Upon receiving news of the crash, the Bansalalu police quickly arrived at the scene. A case has been registered at the Bansalalu police station, and an investigation is underway. Both individuals are in critical condition. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and gathering statements from locals to determine the cause of the accident. Doctors are closely monitoring Gowda’s condition as he continues to receive treatment.
It is noteworthy that Suresh Gowda faced defeat in the 2023 assembly elections, which weakened his political standing. Nagamangala is considered a stronghold for the JD(S). Despite running on a JD(S) ticket, he lost the seat to the Congress party. Gowda is recognized as a prominent local leader of the JD(S) and remains active in Mandya district.
According to his 2023 election affidavit, Suresh Gowda has five criminal cases registered against him. Following his electoral defeat, a defamation case was also filed against him for statements made about the winning candidate. Despite his reduced political activity after the 2023 elections, Gowda continues to voice concerns on local issues, including water problems and development projects.
