Chandigarh, May 7: On the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Kalra emphasized the importance of national security preparations, evolving warfare technologies, and public involvement. He expressed pride in the operation’s success, attributing it to collective readiness, coordination, and awareness across the nation.
Kalra noted that he witnessed firsthand how various departments collaborated in this initiative. Different agencies and security forces were alerted, trained, and coordinated effectively. This achievement was not solely that of security agencies but a testament to the unity and preparedness of the entire system. As a patriot, he confidently stated that Operation Sindoor was a resounding success.
However, he cautioned that security challenges are perpetual and that readiness can never be deemed complete. In today’s fast-paced technological landscape, the nature of warfare is continually evolving. He highlighted that the extensive use of drone technology during Operation Sindoor necessitated new preparations for security agencies. Future threats may involve advanced technologies, including long-range missiles and sophisticated aerial systems, making it crucial to continuously update security measures.
Kalra also shared personal memories, recalling his childhood in Ferozepur during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, where the sounds of sirens and alerts remain vivid in his mind. He noted that residents in border areas have closely experienced war and tension, fostering a natural vigilance regarding security.
He stressed the growing importance of public participation in today’s context. Modern warfare is not fought solely at the military or police level; the awareness and cooperation of ordinary citizens are essential. The increasing use of drones and aerial technology complicates security arrangements, necessitating that the public remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities to authorities.
Responding to recent explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar, Kalra remarked that Punjab’s status as a border state makes it perpetually sensitive to threats. He assured that the Punjab Police is committed to facing every challenge with full capability and professionalism.
