The swirling water from Kamla Balan has inundated scores of new villages in Kewati block of Darbhanga after breaching of Dumri – Guthli embankment in the block. Vehicular traffic on Darbhanga – Jainagar and Darbhanga – Samastipur roads has been halted as the roads are covered with heavy sheets of water.
Rail traffic on Darbhang -Samastipur and Muzaffarpur – Narkatiaganj rail section of East Central Railway remained suspended on the fourth day consecutive today due to overtopping of rail tracks at several places.Met department predicts heavy rainfall in catchment areas of Nepal and various rivers including Gandak , Bagmati and Kamla Balan .
Over 15 lakh people spread over 625 panchayats in eleven districts are reeling under the impact of flood. The worst affected districts are Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Supaul and West Champaran. Relief and rescue operations are in full swing.
Three helicopters of Indian Air Force continue to make rounds of the flood hit regions and drop the dry food packets to the marooned people. 25 teams of NDRF and SDRF are carrying out relief and rescue operations. About one lakh fifty thousand affected people have been shifted to safer places and 15 thousand people have taken shelter in 26 relief camps.
