Mumbai, July 20: The police in Helakandi, Assam, have arrested five suspects in connection with a burglary at the home of Swapna Das, the owner of the Bauraghat petrol pump, located in the Natunpara area. Authorities recovered 21 grams of gold and silver jewelry from the suspects.
In a coordinated operation on Sunday, police conducted simultaneous raids at various locations, leading to the detention of five individuals. Following interrogations, these suspects were arrested. The arrested individuals have been identified as Riju Ahmed Majumdar from Rangauti village, Akbar Hussain Laskar from Bahadurpur, E-rickshaw driver Jabedul Haque from Gangpar Dhumkar, Prasenjit Roy from the same village, and Naharul Islam Barbhuiya, the owner of Taj Mahal Jewelers in Chirajpatty, Helakandi.
Preliminary investigations revealed that each suspect played a distinct role in the crime. Some were directly involved in executing the theft, while others assisted the criminals in escaping. One suspect is also accused of being involved in the buying and selling of the stolen jewelry. Police believe that an organized network is behind this incident, and efforts are underway to connect the various links involved.
The 21 grams of gold and silver jewelry recovered during the investigation have been seized by the police, who have initiated further legal proceedings. The process of identifying the recovered items and returning them to their rightful owner is also in progress. Officials stated that not all stolen property has been recovered yet, prompting ongoing interrogations of the arrested suspects. Additionally, cash and other valuable gold items from the theft remain unaccounted for. The police have assured that efforts are being made to recover the remaining items.
Authorities indicated that the remaining cash and valuable jewelry would soon be recovered, as the team continues to work diligently on the case. They are also pursuing leads to identify additional suspects involved in the crime.
