Raipur, May 12: In a significant development in Chhattisgarh’s Bemetara district, police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress MLA Devendra and over 17 party workers for organizing a symbolic funeral procession. This action follows a written complaint from district panchayat member Anju, also known as Anjay Baghel.
On May 9, between 2 PM and 4:30 PM, a large crowd gathered at the market square in village Jhiria. Allegations have surfaced that Bhilai Nagar MLA Devendra Yadav, former MLA Gurudayal Singh Banjare, and several others, including Arif Bhatia from Nandghat and Pranjal Tiwari from Bahera, orchestrated the event.
The group allegedly declared Chhattisgarh’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dayaldas Baghel deceased, distributing mourning letters and delivering speeches from a platform. They then constructed an effigy and conducted a funeral procession on the main road, causing a traffic jam and disrupting public movement.
Following these events, Anju Baghel lodged a complaint at Chandan police station, prompting law enforcement to take action against the Congress leaders and NSUI workers involved.
Police officials have stated that a team has been formed to investigate the matter. Those found culpable will face appropriate legal actions.
Congress officials assert that their workers are protesting against the alleged killing of cattle. They urge that misinformation should not be spread and emphasize that the Congress is demonstrating its dissent democratically. They plan to continue their protests until the government takes action on the issue.
They further criticized the government for not taking steps to prevent cattle killings, insisting that the administration must address this concern. Until then, their protests will persist.
