FIR against Rana Ayyub for calling Hindu students terrorists

Dharwad, March 5 : The city police have registered an FIR against journalist and author Rana Ayyub for calling students at Udupi college protesting with saffron flags in Karnataka as Hindu terrorists in a television interview. Vidyagiri police on March 4 booked the case against Ayyub under Section 295 A of Indian Penal Code on a complaint filed by a Hindu activist named Ashwath. Section 295 A refers to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, an offence p shable with up to three years in jail with or without a fine. In an interview with the BBC in February, Ayyub is quoted as saying, “These girls have been wearing the hijab for a very long time, it is not for the first time. So, why suddenly has this group of young Hindu vigilantes, Hindu terrorists for that matter, who are hoisting saffron flags in an education complex in Karnataka…” Recently, Ayyub made headlines after ED attached her assets after being accused of financial fraud worth Rs 1.77 crore in the name of Covid-19 donations.
