Finlay Bean Joins Northamptonshire After Leaving Yorkshire Contract Early

Finlay Bean signs a three-year deal with Northamptonshire after leaving Yorkshire, eager to contribute to his new team.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Finlay Bean has officially joined Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, signing a three-year contract on Tuesday. The top-order batsman, who is also skilled in wicketkeeping, previously played for Yorkshire.

Despite having two years remaining on his contract with Yorkshire, Bean was not included in the playing eleven during the initial matches of the County Championship, even after scoring a century and maintaining an average of 25.22.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the move, Bean stated, “I am thrilled to join Northamptonshire. I can’t wait to get started and show the fans what I can do. The success I had in the Blast and my performances in the County Championship suggest this is a fantastic group. I hope we can continue this strong performance into the next season. With Darren and the coaching staff’s guidance, I’m eager to improve my game and contribute significantly to the team.”

Bean made his debut for Yorkshire in August 2022 during the One Day Cup against Kent. The following month, he played his first-class debut against Lancashire in the County Championship Division One. Over his time with Yorkshire, he participated in 78 matches across various formats, amassing over 3,000 runs.

In first-class cricket, he has scored 2,649 runs at an average of 33.53, while in 30 List A matches, he has accumulated 517 runs at an average of 21.54.

Regarding Bean’s departure, Yorkshire’s cricket general manager Gavin Hamilton noted, “We have had open discussions with Fin for about a year. He has emphasized the importance of regular cricket, which is understandable. Fin has been a fantastic player for Yorkshire, and his presence in the dressing room has been invaluable. While we would have liked him to honor the remainder of his contract, we respect his ambition. It’s never easy to see players leave, especially those who have come through our academy, but we take pride in the role Yorkshire has played in his development. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, Northamptonshire’s head coach Darren Lehmann welcomed Bean, stating that he had been on the club’s radar for some time. “Finlay joining Northamptonshire is great news. I’m excited to see how he performs for us in 2027. He has been on our radar for a while, so I’m very pleased we secured a long-term deal with him. Hopefully, he will continue to improve and prove to be an excellent player for the team,” Lehmann added.
