Final Day for Nominations in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections Sees 3,430 Candidates Registered

Chennai, April 6: The nomination process for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is set to conclude on Monday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reported that a total of 3,430 nominations have been received from across the state.

On the final day, a significant number of high-profile candidates are expected to submit their nomination papers, adding momentum to the electoral contest.

According to official figures released by the Election Commission, the majority of nominations have been filed by male candidates, totaling 2,731. Female candidates have submitted 698 nominations, reflecting their modest yet notable participation.

Additionally, a third-gender candidate from the Villivakkam constituency has filed their nomination, marking a small but significant step towards inclusive electoral representation.

Among various constituencies, Karur has recorded the highest number of nominations, with 84 candidates entering the fray. This constituency has attracted particular attention due to the presence of prominent contenders, including former AIADMK minister M.R. Vijay.

A large number of independent candidates have also submitted nominations, leading to an unusually high total.

In contrast, activity levels in Madurai South have been the lowest, with only three nominations filed so far.

On the final day of nominations, several senior leaders are expected to officially enter the electoral race. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, along with former ministers K.P. Munusamy, S.P. Velumani, and Dindigul C. Srinivasan, are set to file their nominations.

From the BJP, state president Nainar Nagendran, Union Minister L. Murugan, former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, and BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan are also anticipated to submit their nominations.

As the nomination phase concludes, attention will soon shift to the scrutiny of candidates and the withdrawal of nominations, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral contest in Tamil Nadu.
