Mumbai/Udaipur, December 7, 2025 (Daily Kiran) – Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was arrested on Sunday by a joint team of Mumbai and Rajasthan police in connection with a 30 crore rupees fraud case. He stands accused of cheating Dr. Ajay Murdia, a leading IVF specialist and owner of the Indira Group of Companies in Udaipur, under the pretext of film production.

The police detained Bhatt from his brother-in-law’s residence at Ganga Bhavan Apartments on Yari Road, Andheri, Mumbai. Following his arrest, Rajasthan police will take him to Udaipur on transit remand. The case involves allegations of film production investment fraud with Bhatt’s family members and associates also named as accused.

According to the complaint, the dispute began in April 2024 when Dr. Murdia approached Vikram Bhatt to produce a biopic based on his late wife. The meeting took place at Vrindavan Studios in Mumbai through an intermediary named Dinesh Kataria. Afterward, both parties signed an agreement with substantial investment.

Bhatt and his team had promised to produce the biopic along with three other films and a documentary, claiming potential earnings of up to 200 crore rupees. Trusting these assurances, Dr. Murdia transferred over 30 crore rupees in installments to Bhatt’s production company. However, it is alleged that the funds were misappropriated and not used for film production.

On November 17, 2025, Dr. Murdia filed an FIR at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur against Vikram Bhatt and seven others under sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the BNS Act. The FIR names accused including Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, daughter Krishna Bhatt, Dinesh Kataria, Mudit Button, Gangeshwarlal Srivastava, Ashok Dubey, and co-producer Mehbub Ansari.

Dr. Murdia also alleged that the film credits were not given properly and the films completed were not as promised. The police have begun examining bank statements, contracts, and communication records related to the case.

Earlier, on November 18, 2025, co-producer Mehbub Ansari and Mumbai-based vendor Sandeep Trilochan were arrested and sent to police custody by the Udaipur court.

Before his arrest, Vikram Bhatt denied the allegations, calling the FIR based on misleading and false documents. He claimed that Dr. Murdia had halted the film work midway, causing delays in payment to crew members. Bhatt stated that he possesses all email correspondences and contract evidence and will fully cooperate with the investigation.

Currently, Vikram Bhatt is in Mumbai police custody. Rajasthan police are in the process of obtaining transit remand from the Bandra court to bring him to Udaipur. The ongoing investigation will focus on financial transactions, production documents, and witness statements.

Vikram Bhatt is a veteran Bollywood director known for successful horror films like ‘1920’, ‘Raaz’, and ‘Ragini MMS’. Recently, he produced the film ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’ released in March 2025.
