Karachi, May 16: Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has made history. She scored a remarkable fifty in just 15 balls during the third T20 International against Zimbabwe. This achievement makes her the fastest player to reach fifty in Women’s T20 Internationals.
Fatima showcased her exceptional batting skills, scoring 62 runs off just 19 balls. Her innings included 10 fours and 2 sixes, resulting in an impressive strike rate of 326. She surpassed the previous record held by Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield, and Richa Ghosh, who all achieved their fifties in 18 balls.
Sana entered the crease in the 17th over and immediately began hitting boundaries. She opened her account with a four off Michelle Mavunga’s delivery. In the 19th over, she scored a staggering 24 runs against Nomvelo Sibanda, hitting three fours and two sixes in that over.
Thanks to the captain’s explosive innings, Pakistan posted a total of 223 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs, marking the team’s second-highest score in Women’s T20 Internationals. Earlier in the series, Pakistan had set a record total of 237 runs in the first T20 match. Besides Sana, Syra Zabeen contributed an unbeaten 50 runs off 32 balls, while Ayesha Zafar added 45 runs off 28 balls.
Before Fatima, the record for the fastest fifty in Women’s T20 Internationals for Pakistan was held by Nida Dar, who achieved the feat in 20 balls against South Africa in 2019. Sana’s recent form in 2026 has been outstanding. She is currently the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in the shortest format this year, amassing 229 runs at a strike rate of 206 across five innings.
In pursuit of Pakistan’s target of 224 runs, Zimbabwe’s entire team collapsed for just 90 runs, leading to a 133-run victory for the hosts.
