Kolkata, May 19: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari pledged on Tuesday to provide jobs to the families of those killed in the violence following the 2021 assembly elections.
In addition to this commitment, the Chief Minister also took responsibility for the party workers who were victims of violence in the state. He instructed Debangshu Panda, the BJP candidate from Falta, to send him a list of party workers from that assembly seat who suffered at the hands of the previous ruling party’s members. Adhikari stated that assistance would be provided to the victims based on this list, assuring them that “your Chief Minister will always be with you.”
According to BJP estimates, a total of 321 party workers were killed in the violence that erupted after the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.
Voting in Falta took place on April 29 during the second phase of the recently concluded two-phase assembly elections. On that day, several complaints of electoral fraud were reported from Falta.
At various polling stations, the EVM buttons for BJP candidates were covered with white tape, obscuring their names and symbols.
Following these allegations, special election observer Subrata Gupta, who currently serves as an advisor to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, personally visited Falta to investigate the claims.
Based on Gupta’s investigation report, the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered a re-poll for the entire Falta assembly seat. The re-poll is scheduled for May 21, with results to be announced on May 24.
