Amritsar, May 6: A powerful explosion occurred late Tuesday night outside an army camp located near the Khalsa area of Amritsar. The blast was so loud that it caused panic in the surrounding neighborhoods, prompting residents to rush outside their homes. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties reported from the incident.
According to reports, the explosion took place around 10:50 PM, leading to the deployment of bomb disposal squads (BDS) and forensic teams at the scene.
The forensic science laboratory team collected samples and other physical evidence, which will be analyzed to determine the exact nature and cause of the explosion.
SP Aditya Warrior spoke to reporters, stating, “We received information around 10:30 PM about a loud noise near Khalsa. Police and army personnel arrived at the scene to confirm the situation. The bomb disposal squad has also reached, and operations are ongoing.”
He further explained that the BDS conducted a thorough inspection of the site while the forensic team gathered evidence for further investigation. Following the incident, the army cordoned off the area, maintaining strict surveillance due to its proximity to the camp.
Authorities indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and more information is awaited. This incident comes in the wake of another explosion that occurred around 8 PM near the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar, reportedly caused by a scooter catching fire.
According to officials, police are investigating the exact cause of the explosion. The scooter involved belonged to Gurpreet Singh, an employee of a courier company, and police are currently questioning him.
There have been no reports of injuries in either incident. The sequence of events has sparked political reactions, with the Bharatiya Janata Party criticizing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
BJP Punjab General Secretary Parminder Singh Barad posted on social media platform X, stating, “The explosion near the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar is a grim reminder of the crumbling law and order in Punjab. The blast from a delivery scooter in a crowded area highlights how dangerously unsafe public spaces have become.”
