Ethiopian Airlines appoints new CEO

Addis Ababa, March 24 ( /Xinhua) Ethiopia’s national air carrier, Ethiopian Airlines announced on Thursday it has appointed Mesfin Tassew as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In a press statement, Ethiopian Airlines said Tassew has taken over from his predecessor Tewolde Gebremariam, who resigned from his Ethiopian Airlines CEO position on Wednesday, a post that he had been serving for 11 years. Gebremariam had cited poor health as a reason for his resignation. “Tassew has 38 years of experience in airline management and operations in the areas of aircraft maintenance and engineering, procurement, information technology, flight operations capability development of corporate strategies, airline operation management and corporate leadership,” said the Ethiopian Airlines statement. Tassew had previously served as Chief Operating Officer of Ethiopian Airlines from 2010-2021. Ethiopian Airlines, founded in 1946, is the largest African air carrier with more than 130 international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents. Ethiopian Airlines is currently implementing a 15-year strategic plan called Vision 2025, that aims to make it become the leading aviation group in Africa with seven business ts. /XINHUA GNK
