Eshwarappa will continue to stay as minister: Bommai

Bengaluru, April 14 : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said there was no pressure from BJP’s central leadership over the removal of RDPR Minister KS Eshwarappa and he will continue to stay in the cabinet. He told reporters while replying to a query on Congress party’s demand for removal of Eshwarappa for his alleged involvement in the death of Santosh Patil who had earlier alleged that the minister had demanded 40 percent commission for granting of contract to take up government project. Patil allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in a lodge in Udupi holding Eshwarappa responsible for his death. “I am not under any pressure. It depends on preliminary investigation,” Bommai said. The police have filed an FIR against Eshwarappa, following which the Congress is pitching hard for his removal, arguing that it is abetment to suicide and the minister should be arrested. Meanwhile, earlier today Congress leaders including Randeep Surjewala were stopped and detained when they were marching towards Bommai’s residence demanding Eshwarappa’s sacking. They were released later. Surjewala alleged that Bommai is acting against the constitution and Eshwarappa does not not have right to continue as the constitution. BDN SHK1841
