Colombo, February 27: In a thrilling encounter at the T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 round, England defeated New Zealand by four wickets on Friday. Chasing a target of 160 runs set by New Zealand, England achieved their goal with three balls to spare, thanks to a stunning late innings performance by Will Jacks.
England’s innings got off to a rocky start. Phil Salt fell for just 2 runs, dismissed by Matt Henry. Jos Buttler, struggling with form, returned to the pavilion without scoring. After losing two quick wickets, captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethel steadied the ship, adding 48 runs for the third wicket.
Brook scored 26 runs off 24 balls before getting out, while Bethel contributed 21 runs with the help of four boundaries. After losing four wickets for just 58 runs, Sam Curran and Tom Banton took charge, adding 42 runs for the fifth wicket. However, Will Jacks and Rehan Ahmed turned the tide with an unbeaten partnership of 44 runs in just 16 balls, leading England to victory.
