Embrace Trikonasana for a Stress-Free Life and Stronger Body

New Delhi, May 18: In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, physical activity is declining while mental stress is on the rise. To keep the body energized, yoga presents an excellent solution. Among various yoga poses, Trikonasana stands out as a simple yet effective asana. It helps improve balance by stretching the body in three directions.

The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has highlighted the benefits of Trikonasana. According to the ministry, this vital yoga pose forms a triangular shape with the body (arms, legs, and torso) during practice. It enhances flexibility, balance, and strength while also improving respiratory capacity.

Trikonasana is particularly beneficial for those with desk jobs. Regular practice keeps the muscles active and enhances coordination among different body parts. This pose provides stability, increases the body’s ability to maintain balance, and strengthens the muscles. Additionally, it aids in flexibility, making daily tasks easier.

The act of bending and stretching activates the abdominal organs, improving digestion. For individuals suffering from gas, indigestion, or other stomach-related issues, this pose can be advantageous. Furthermore, it helps enhance concentration, allowing individuals to focus better on their tasks.

To perform Trikonasana, spread your feet 3 to 4 feet apart on a yoga mat. Turn your right foot 90 degrees outward and slightly bend your left foot inward. Extend both arms parallel to your shoulders with palms facing down. Gradually lean to the right, attempting to touch your right foot or ankle with your right hand while raising your left hand straight up. Hold this position for 20 to 30 seconds, maintaining normal breathing. Slowly return to the standing position and repeat the process on the left side.

However, individuals with severe pain from slipped discs, sciatica, or recent abdominal surgeries should avoid practicing this pose.
