Lucknow, April 17 : The euphoria and poll fever may have subsided in the most populated state of the country, following the Assembly and Council elections, but the elections are not over yet in Uttar Pradesh. In the months to come, more polls are lined up in UP. In July, elections will be held for 11 seats of Rajya Sabha. Important leaders, including Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national secretary Satish Chandra Mishra and Kapil Sibbal of Congress will retire on July 4. After this elections for Council and urban local body polls will be held by the end of this year. Before this, three nominated members of UP Legislative Council Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, Zahid Hussain ‘Wasim Barelvi’ and Madhukar Jaitley will retire on April 28. After this, three more nominated members Rajpal Kashyap, Arvind Kumar Singh and Sanjay Lathar will retire next month on May 25. Now new members will be nominated on these six seats. These members are nominated by the Governor after consulting the state government. By the time this process will get completed, 13 more in the council will fall vacant due to the retirement of some members. Though Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was supposed to be one of them, but he had already resigned after getting elected as an MLA from Gorakhpur Sadar seat. Among those who will retire on July 6, include Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Balram Yadav, Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pathak, Ran Vijay Singh, Ram Sunder Nishad, Shatrudra Prakash, Atar Singh Rao, Dinesh Chandra, Surendra Kumar Kashyap, Deepak Singh and Bhupendra Singh. Unlike recently concluded Council polls this time the new members will be elected by the MLAs. In addition to this, election will held for one more seat, which felt vacant after the death of Leader of the Opposition in the Council Ahmad Hasan, who passed away in February this year. By the time these elections will get over, the polling process for urban local body polls will be due in November-December. But before that delimitation, formation of wards and reservation of seats along with revision of electoral polls will be carried out by the UP State Election Commission. Last time, urban local body polls were held in 2017, but there will be slight change this time. In 2017, polls were held for 16 M cipal Corporation, 198 Nagar Palika Parishad and 438 Nagar Panchayat, but this time, it is expected that elections will be held for 17 M cipal Corporation, 200 Palika Parishad and around 450 Nagar Panchayat.
