New Delhi, February 5: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated an investigation against the promoters and key officials of the Nidumparambil Credit Syndicate (NCS Group) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with an alleged financial fraud case in Kerala. This action follows multiple FIRs registered by the Kerala police. The crimes in question relate to Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to a press release from the ED, the preliminary investigation revealed that officials of the NCS Group lured a significant number of investors across various districts in Kerala with promises of high returns, encouraging them to invest substantial amounts. Allegations indicate that the investors’ deposits were neither returned nor were the promised returns delivered, leaving thousands financially impacted.
A thorough examination of bank accounts by the ED uncovered extensive financial transactions, indications of fund diversion to multiple related entities, and substantial cash withdrawals. Furthermore, the investigation has raised suspicions that the fraudulently obtained funds were used to invest in real estate across different regions of the state.
The press release further stated that based on solid evidence gathered during the investigation, the ED conducted a search operation under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. During this operation, crucial documents, digital records, and other materials were seized, believed to be instrumental in tracing the proceeds of crime.
The Enforcement Directorate has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further actions may be taken against other aspects of the scam and potential accused individuals in the coming days.
