EAM, Mexico FM hold talks on enhancing cooperation in trade, health, sci-tech

New Delhi, March 30 : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday held talks with visiting Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, health and science and technology. The two sides, meeting in Hyderabad House for delegation level talks, also exchanged notes on their close cooperation in the UN Security Council. EAM also congratulated Mexico on taking over the presidency of the Pacific Alliance. “Warm and productive discussions with Mexican FM @m_ebrard today evening. “Discussed our growing trade and investment, health, science & technology and space sector cooperation. “Also exchanged notes on our close UNSC cooperation. Congratulated Mexico for taking over Presidency of Pacific Alliance. “Our regular engagements will continue providing greater energy to our relationship,” he tweeted. The Mexican Foreign Minister, in a tweet on the talks, said he held a very cordial conversation with the EAM on the bilateral relationship, investments and on cooperation for drugs and vaccines. “Very cordial conversation about the bilateral relationship, investments, cooperation for drugs and vaccines, the international order and multilateralism. We are moving towards a strategic and increasingly close relationship,” he posted. Mexico joined as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a period of two years from January 2021. The Pacific Alliance is an initiative of regional integration comprised by Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Established in April 2011, it is aimed at moving towards deeper integration by way of free mobility of goods, services, resources and people. Mexico took over the presidency in January this year from Colombia. Foreign Minister Casaubon also met with Ministers Jitendra Singh, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Sarbananda Sonowal. On his meeting with the Health Minister, the Mexican FM praised Mandaviya’s effort to digitize the medical information of the Indian population, and said they have initiated cooperation in this field and in the field of medicines. “With Mansuk Mandaviya, Minister of Health of India. It is an extraordinary effort that he leads to digitize the medical information of the entire population. We initiated cooperation in this field and in the field of medicines.” On his meeting with Singh, he said they have agreed to establish a project accelerator, and also cooperate in green hydrogen, digital economy, vaccine development, robotics in space. “Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science and Technology, received us with great interest. We agreed to establish a Project Accelerator. Among others green hydrogen, digital economy, vaccine development, robotics in space, immunotherapy and biotechnology.” On his meeting with Parag Deshmukh of the Serum Institute, he said: ”In February 2021, he sent us 800 thousand doses against Covid-19 just when we had none. Now we will work together so that it never happens to us again and we are safe.” Minister of Ports, Shipping, Waterways and AYUSH, Sonowal, said they had a good discussion on increasing collaboration in Ayush and boost bilateral ties. “Great meeting with Mexico Foreign Minister @m_ebrard and his team today in New Delhi. India and Mexico have a long friendship and warm relations. Had a good discussion to increase collaboration in Ayush and strengthen bilateral ties.” Casaubon, who arrived last night, said he has an intense agenda focused on cooperation in the pharma and aerospace fields. Federico Salas, the Mexican ambassador in India, said in a tweet: “Thank you @DrSJaishankar For your commitment to a closer relationship with Mexico. This visit of @m_ebrard is a landmark that will decisively help us move our cooperation forward.” RN
