DVAC raids at ex-AIADMK Minister premises, 11.153 kg gold, Rs 84 lakh cash seized

Chennai, Mar 16 : The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) have seized gold ornaments weighing about 11.153 kg, 118.506 kg silver, Rs 86 lakh unaccounted cash and other incriminating documents during the raids at places linked to senior AIADMK leader and former Minister S P Velumani and his family members yesterday. A DVAC release today said during the raids held in 59 places (42 locations in Coimbatore, 7 in Chennai, 4 in Salem, 2 in Tiruppur, one each in Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur and Anaikatti in Kerala) the officials also seized other incriminating documents, material objects like mobile phones, locker keys of several banks, laptop, computer hard discs etc., and documents pertaining to the case. Further investment in different types of crypto currecies to the tune of Rs 34 lakh were detected. The release said based on credible information that the former Minister for M cipal Administration and Rural Development and present MLA representing Thondamuthur Assembly constituency had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs 58,23,97,052 during the period of his office between April 27, 2016 to March 15, 2021 with the aid of 12 other accused by hatching criminal conspiracy and abetment, a case was registered in Coimbatore under Secs 120-b of IPC, 13(2) read with 13 (1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and under Secs 13(2) read with 13(1) (b) of the PCA against Velumani, P.Ambarasan, Ms S.A.Hemalatha, R.Chandrasekar, K.Chandraprakash, Ms R.Krishnaveni, Ms.K.Sundari. H.Karthick, J.Vishnuvardhan, S.Saravanakumar, Sri Maha Ganapathi Jewellers Private Limited, Constromall Good Private Limited and Aalam Gold and Diamonds Private Limited and the investigation was under progress.
