
Surat, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The 89th edition of the ‘Fit India-Sunday on Cycle’ initiative took place in Surat on September 6, 2026. This event focused on the theme of “Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India.” It was attended by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, along with Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi.
The event commenced with Dr. Mandaviya paying homage at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Both he and Sanghvi led the bicycle rally, which was symbolically launched by releasing balloons. Thousands of participants of all ages joined the rally, showcasing a strong community spirit.
In a conversation with reporters, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the significance of the event, noting, “This is the 89th edition of Sunday on Cycle. Over 25,000 locations across the country have spread the message of ‘Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India’ through this initiative. For a prosperous nation, it is essential for citizens to stay healthy. Healthy citizens create a healthy society, and from a healthy society, a happy country can emerge. I urge the youth to embrace cycling as a means to stay fit.”
The ‘Sunday on Cycle’ program is held every Sunday nationwide, with the main event rotating among different cities. Dr. Mandaviya consistently attends these main events, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting health awareness and environmental cleanliness.
The initiative, which began in December 2024, is managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India and other partners. It aims to foster a culture of health and fitness among the populace, reinforcing the idea that healthy citizens contribute to a prosperous and developed nation.
