Bengaluru, May 5: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar has accused the BJP of systematically abusing power during the recent elections in several northern states.
Speaking to the media at the KPCC office and in Kanakapura, Shivakumar claimed that the BJP engaged in widespread misuse of authority, particularly in West Bengal, Assam, and Tamil Nadu.
He alleged that the BJP’s actions amounted to significant electoral malpractice, with around 2.5 million Central Armed Police Force personnel deployed and nearly 9.6 million voters’ names removed from the electoral rolls.
Commenting on Kerala, he noted that the United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a substantial majority. Despite an alleged collusion between the LDF and BJP, he stated that the public blessed them with victory. Regarding Tamil Nadu, he mentioned that although the DMK lost, voters rejected the BJP’s allies, keeping ‘communal forces’ at bay.
When asked if he anticipated such a large majority in Kerala, Shivakumar affirmed his confidence, stating he had expressed optimism about returning to power with a two-thirds majority during the campaign. He praised the unity of Kerala’s leaders and congratulated party workers and voters alike.
He further emphasized that the results from South India send a clear message: voters have rejected the BJP.
In response to questions about working with TVK, Shivakumar stated that he would follow party directives, asserting, “I do what the party says. I won’t speculate on other matters.”
Regarding his earlier confidence in the Assam elections, he remarked that as a politician, he must always remain optimistic.
