Mumbai, May 9: Actress Divya Dutta is currently receiving acclaim for her role in the web series ‘Chiraiya.’ Directed by Shashant Shah, this six-episode series tackles serious social issues such as marital rape and domestic abuse.
Since its release on Jio Hotstar, ‘Chiraiya’ has been praised for its compelling narrative, garnering positive feedback for all its cast members. Dutta believes that the series resonates with many women, allowing them to connect with its story.
On Saturday, she shared a video from a podcast on her Instagram Stories, stating, “Everyone is watching Chiraiya. Recently, I met a mother who found the courage to speak to her daughter’s in-laws after watching the series.”
Dutta recounted the woman’s words: “At my yoga class, a woman approached me and asked if she could speak with me. I thought it was an odd time for a conversation, so I asked her to wait. But she was eager to talk.”
The woman shared her struggles, saying, “My daughter was abandoned by her in-laws, and I lacked the courage to confront them. After watching ‘Chiraiya,’ I cried a lot. It gave me the strength to face them.”
Dutta expressed her gratitude for the kind of responses the series is receiving. “It’s moments like these that highlight the power of visual media and storytelling. When a story is presented well, people connect with it, which is incredibly rewarding. A new wave has begun. I recall someone saying just yesterday that this is the story of every household today. Everyone is watching ‘Chiraiya.’”
