New Delhi, April 5: Raghavendra Kumar, popularly known as the Helmet Man in India, believes that if former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni takes initiatives for road safety, it could lead to significant changes. Raghavendra stated that Dhoni is highly respected and his words carry weight among the public.
When asked whom he would prefer for a road safety awareness campaign between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, Raghavendra confidently chose Dhoni. He acknowledged both as great cricketers but emphasized Dhoni’s patience and approach.
Raghavendra noted that Dhoni has always prioritized safety. He shared that even during his childhood as a goalkeeper, Dhoni’s parents ensured he wore a helmet, which contributed to his success as a wicketkeeper. He added that mothers listen to Dhoni, who has even been the subject of a film.
According to Raghavendra, Dhoni remains a beloved figure in households, with children idolizing him. This is why he believes Dhoni should lead road safety awareness programs.
He asserted that if Dhoni advocates for road safety, it would create a significant impact. Raghavendra highlighted the popularity of cricket in India and suggested that if the BCCI uses the IPL platform to promote helmet use and road safety, it would yield positive results.
He also pointed out the importance of helmets in cricket, stating that they allow batsmen to face bowlers with confidence and hit boundaries. Raghavendra revealed that approximately 1,300 people lose their lives in road accidents daily in India, with many fatalities due to not wearing helmets. Thus, raising awareness through cricket could be beneficial.
