Dhoni Begins IPL 2026 Preparations as JSCA Shares Training Video

Ranchi: Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has started preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, which is set to begin in March. The 44-year-old is set to represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 17th time.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) shared a video on their social media platforms showing Dhoni wearing his pads and batting in the nets. The footage also captures Dhoni interacting with JSCA secretary Saurabh Tiwari as he gets ready for the practice session.

JSCA expressed pride in Dhoni, describing him as their pride and captioning the post on Instagram, “Look who’s back. JSCA’s pride: Mahendra Singh Dhoni.”

Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 but has continued to play in the IPL exclusively for Chennai Super Kings. He remains one of the most influential players for CSK, having led the team to five IPL titles during his captaincy.

Last IPL season was disappointing for CSK as the team managed only four wins in 14 matches, finishing at the bottom of the points table. Dhoni scored 196 runs in 13 innings with an average of 24.50 but could not register a half-century.

Despite this, Dhoni is still regarded as one of the finest batsmen in IPL history. Over 278 matches with two franchises, he has scored 5,439 runs at an average of 38.80 in 242 innings. His highest score in the tournament is an unbeaten 84, and he has struck 24 half-centuries.

Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011. For his exceptional contributions to cricket, Dhoni has been honoured with prestigious awards including the Padma Bhushan (2018), Padma Shri (2009), and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (2008).
