Kolkata, April 18 : Expressing deep concern at the happening in Calcutta High Court on April 13, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday said he had flagged the issue to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Taking to twitter, Dhankhar said, ” Being deeply concerned at unprecedented & shocking ruckus in Calcutta High Court on April 13, had flagged issue to Chief Minister. ” Stating that denial or obstruction to justice is antithetical to rule of law, Dhankhar said he expects all, particularly noble fraternity, to ensure sanctity of temple of justice. Dhankhar earlier urged Banerjee for an interaction following “disturbing and unprecedented worrisome” scenario in the precincts of Calcutta High Court. “ You would agree that in a system governed by constitution and rule of law, denial of access to justice and obstruction in the functioning of the Courts sounds (like) the death knell of democracy,” the Governor said. The advocates with allegiance to state ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday protested against Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay in the Calcutta High Court premises, even as some lawyers sat on a dharna and blocked people from entering the court of Justice Gangopadhyay. There had been heated arguments between two groups of lawyers in Calcutta High Court. While some wanted to boycott Justice Gangopadhyay’s bench, others were opposing it. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay who had ordered a CBI probe into the alleged School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment irregularities and sought the intervention of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Calcutta High Court Chief Justice as his orders were stayed by the division bench one a number of occasions in the said case.
