Ujjain, August 16: On August 16, a large number of devotees gathered at the Mahakaleshwar Temple to witness the divine Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal, held on the fourth day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan.
Early Sunday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the elaborate adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras. Baba Mahakal was adorned with a Sheshnag crown, a silver necklace, and a Rudraksha mala.
With the opening of the temple gates, the priests performed a ceremonial water offering, known as Jalabhishek, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal was depicted with a crescent moon on his forehead. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. After the Kapoor Aarti, Baba donned a new crown. The Bhasma Aarti was conducted with the accompaniment of jingling cymbals, drums, and conch shells.
The head priest conducted the Maha Aarti, and many devotees were present to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. To receive the blessings of their deity, numerous devotees had queued up since the previous night. It is customary for men to wear traditional dhoti and women to wear sarees during the Bhasma Aarti.
Notably, the renowned poet and eloquent speaker Kumar Vishwas also attended the event, paying his respects to Baba Mahakal.
