Devotees Flock to Pray at Maa Alopshankari Temple During Navratri Festival
A large crowd of devotees visited the Maa Alopshankari Temple in Prayagraj, celebrating Navratri with prayers and rituals.

Prayagraj, October 18 (Daily Kiran) : The sacred occasion of Sharadiya Navratri drew a massive crowd of devotees to the Maa Alopshankari Shakti Peeth in Prayagraj on October 18. From early Sunday morning, worshippers began arriving to seek blessings and participate in rituals. The ceremonial Mangala Aarti marked the start of a day filled with prayers and offerings, resonating with chants of devotion throughout the temple grounds.
On this significant day, known as Ashtami, devotees honored Maa Durga’s eighth form, Maa Mahagauri. According to religious beliefs, sincere worship on Mahashtami alleviates devotees’ hardships and brings prosperity. Many devotees gathered at the temple, performing rituals with deep faith.
Long lines of worshippers formed outside the temple as early as 4 AM. With offerings of prayer plates, coconuts, scarves, flowers, and sweets in hand, they patiently awaited their turn. The queue included women, elderly individuals, children, and youth. As the day progressed, the number of devotees continued to swell, and despite hours of waiting, excitement remained high among those eager to glimpse the deity.
The Maa Alopshankari Temple holds a unique religious significance. Instead of a traditional idol, devotees worship a cradle adorned with flowers. This site is believed to be where a part of Goddess Sati fell, leading to the temple’s name. Worshippers come here to offer coconuts, scarves, and flowers, seeking the goddess’s blessings.
A special emphasis was placed on Kanya Pujan during the festivities, with many devotees honoring young girls, feeding them, and praying for their families’ well-being and the welfare of all.
In light of the large turnout, security measures were implemented by local authorities around the temple and its vicinity. Iron barricades were erected to ensure orderly movement among the devotees, preventing any potential chaos. Female police officers were deployed inside and outside the temple, and surveillance cameras monitored the crowd.
Throughout the day, vendors selling worship materials, coconuts, scarves, and sweets experienced a bustling trade. The influx of devotees transformed the atmosphere into one of deep spirituality, with the flow of prayers and rituals expected to continue late into the night.
