Mumbai, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Ganesh Festival is in full swing across India, and on its first day, devotees at Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai made a generous donation of ₹48.5 lakhs. This amount included ₹27.5 lakhs from the stage box and ₹21 lakhs from the color box. Last year, the first day saw donations totaling ₹46 lakhs.
In a related initiative, the Greater Mumbai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) organized awareness workshops for officials and workers of various Ganesh mandals. A total of five workshops were held at different locations, with participation from 320 officials and members of related organizations.
In collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the FDA conducted a workshop titled “The Sweetness of Modak, Assurance of Food Safety” for 110 self-help groups (SHGs) involved in making modaks. During this session, food safety officers provided insights on the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006, emphasizing “Good Hygiene Practices” (GHP) and “Good Manufacturing Practices” (GMP).
Additionally, guidelines were issued for mandals distributing prasad, instructing them to submit necessary forms for food distribution to the relevant authorities. They were also advised to procure food items only from licensed vendors and to obtain proper receipts.
Attendees received vital information on food safety and cleanliness precautions. The primary goal of these workshops was to ensure that devotees receive safe and high-quality food during the Ganesh Festival.
The Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 aims to provide nutritious, unadulterated, and safe food to the public, and the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration is actively working toward this objective.
