New Delhi, 2 January. Spiritual preacher and Sanatan Dharma guru Devkinandan Thakur strongly criticised Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for purchasing a Bangladeshi player in the IPL. He said that atrocities against Hindus are ongoing in Bangladesh, and spending crores of rupees on players from that country hurts the sentiments of the Hindu community and the nation.
In an interview with a news agency, Devkinandan Thakur clarified that he has no objection to the sport or individual players. However, he expressed strong disapproval of promoting players from a country where Hindus face persecution. He alleged that Hindus are being targeted in Bangladesh, citing a recent incident where a Hindu businessman was attacked and nearly set on fire with petrol while returning home after closing his shop.
He stated, “We do not care how many Bangladeshi players participate in the IPL. As religious leaders, our aim is to protect religion and society. But when such grave injustice is happening to Hindus in that country, offering ₹9.2 crore to a player from there and including him in your team hurts Hindu sentiments.”
Without naming KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan, Devkinandan Thakur said, “Your team has other players. Remove one and keep the rest. If a Sanatan guru in India makes this request and 50,000 people agree with it, then it should be accepted. No Bangladeshi cricketer should play in the IPL. Our money should not be used against our Hindu brothers and sisters. We, our Sanatan board, and all true Sanatanis want this.”
He issued a warning, saying, “If this demand is not met, people associated with Sanatan Dharma will oppose it. We have our own strategy and will prove in the future how patriotism can be shown through sports.”
He added firmly, “If you talk about brotherhood but support the destruction of your brother, that will not be tolerated. If my Hindu brothers and sisters are being harmed in Bangladesh and you enjoy and give money to those enemies, it won’t be accepted. Two swords cannot be used in one sheath. You must clarify whether you stand with the people of India or if this is a betrayal.”
During the conversation, Devkinandan Thakur also responded to Congress leader Nana Patole’s statement comparing Rahul Gandhi to Lord Ram. He said, “Only Lord Ram is like Ram. I pray that everyone remains loyal to Ram — Rahul Gandhi and Patole included. Whoever stands with Ram will benefit, and whoever opposes him has never gained in this country.”
He concluded, “No matter which party you belong to, as long as you follow Ram, you will prosper. Those who oppose Ram have never prospered in this country.”
