Devine to be monitored, Tahuhu ruled out

Christchurch, March 25 : New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine, who had suffered back injury last week, is hopeful of taking the field against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup on March 26. The 32-year-old didn’t return for New Zealand’s fielding innings against England in their must-win match on March 20. “Captain @sophdevine77 has taken full part in team training today. She will continue to be monitored over the next 24 hours and is hopeful of taking the field tomorrow,” White Ferns tweeted on Friday. Devine, who was forced to retire hurt while batting, pulled up sore when attempting to turn for a second run on the first ball of the 15th over and the veteran batter knew something was amiss. Medical staff treated Devine for a back injury on the side of the pitch, before she hobbled off the ground to the applause of the crowd. She had recovered well enough to return to the crease but failed to last much longer. Meanwhile, fast bowler Lea Tahuhu, who had sustained a left hamstring injury during the England game, has been “ruled out” for the match against Pakistan. “Pace bower, @LTahuhu, has been ruled out having not recovered from her hamstring injury sustained in Auckland,” added White Ferns. Tahuhu had pulled up while bowling and was unable to complete her over.
