Deoghar Ropeway Incident: HC takes suo-moto cognizance, asks govt to file reply

Ranchi, April 12 : The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday took suo-moto cognizance of the Deoghar Ropeway Incident and directed the state government to file a reply over the matter. The court later fixed April 25 as the next date for hearing in the case. After the rescue operations came to an end on Tuesday afternoon a total of 46 people were rescued from the trolleys stuck mid-air in the ropeway while three people lost their lives. The incident had happened on late Sunday Afternoon. The court headed by Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad gave orders in this regard. The court in its comments said that the matter was a serious one and could not be overlooked. While replying on behalf of the state government Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan said that a high level probe has been ordered into the matter. He said whether the incident took place due to over loading or is a matter of negligence in maintenance will come out in probe. Jawans of the Airforce, NDRF, ITBP, Army from Sunday late afternoon to Tuesday afternoon worked relentlessly and under extreme difficulty situation to rescue the people who were stuck in the trolleys mid-air. Overall 46 people were rescued while three people including two women lost their lives in the incident. AK BM
