Delhi Police Personnel Detained in Shimla Amid Kidnapping Investigation

Shimla, February 26: Delhi police personnel were detained in Shimla while investigating a kidnapping case linked to a protest at the AI Summit held at Bharat Mandapam. They were released on Thursday after following legal procedures. This marks the first official statement from Himachal Pradesh police regarding the incident.

The Himachal police revealed that the Delhi officers were taken into custody to uncover the truth behind the alleged kidnapping. Reports indicated that individuals in civilian clothing, driving vehicles with out-of-state registration, had forcibly abducted three individuals staying at a resort in Chirgaon. Additionally, some electronic devices, including a digital video recorder (DVR), were seized.

Taking the matter seriously, Shimla police promptly initiated necessary legal actions to ascertain the facts. Coordinating swiftly with Solan police, teams intercepted the involved individuals at various locations, including ISBT in Shoghi and Dharampur.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the group included police officers from Delhi and Haryana, who were pursuing the three individuals in connection with a case registered in Delhi. To ensure the protection of all parties’ rights and full legal compliance, Shimla police presented the individuals before the competent local court for appropriate directives.

Medical examinations for the three individuals were conducted at Ripon Hospital in Shimla. Subsequently, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Shimla granted a transit remand of nearly 18 hours. After fulfilling all legal formalities and proper verification, the Delhi and Haryana police teams were permitted to return to Delhi with the individuals.

Himachal Pradesh police confirmed that an FIR was filed at Chirgaon police station on February 25, following a complaint from the owner of Chanshul Resort, and the investigation is ongoing.
