New Delhi, August 31: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to transform urban public spaces, particularly areas beneath flyovers, through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
According to an official statement, the MoU was signed between the Delhi government’s Public Works Department (PWD) and two private companies.
The aim of this partnership is to convert neglected or underutilized spaces beneath and around flyovers into clean, green, safe, and functional public areas for citizens.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that creating a clean, green, and beautiful Delhi is a collective responsibility of the government, society, and the private sector.
She stated that the Delhi government is promoting the PPP model to enhance neglected areas, making them better, safer, more attractive, and environmentally friendly public spaces for citizens.
This initiative will focus on cleanliness, greenery, beautification, safety, pedestrian movement, and environmental awareness.
The statement noted that Delhi’s PWD Minister Pravesh Verma, senior officials from relevant departments, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
Under an initiative by Dixon Technologies and Vrikshit Foundation, a 2.5-kilometer stretch beneath the flyover from Deepawali to Mangolpuri Market will be developed into clean, green, and safe community spaces.
The project will also include fencing along the 2.5-kilometer stretch beneath the flyover. According to the statement, eco-friendly murals and artworks based on environmental and clean energy themes will be created on 61 pillars of the flyover, covering an area of approximately 5,100 square meters.
It was mentioned that organized greenery will be developed using local plant species, grasses, shrubs, and flowering plants.
As part of a CSR initiative, the Kanodia Group will develop and maintain a green belt of about two acres along Mathura Road and MP Road.
The statement highlighted that issues such as littering, unauthorized encroachments, roadside encroachments, and the disorganized use of these areas are currently affecting the greenery, cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the surrounding area.
