
New Delhi: A fake Facebook account using the name of Lok Sabha member and Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari has come to light. Following the discovery, the Delhi Police Cyber Cell has taken swift action and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown individuals involved.
The fake account operated under the name “Manoj Tiwari BJP” and featured his photos, videos, and name. Misleading messages, false information, and posts unrelated to Manoj Tiwari or his team were shared from this account, posing a threat to his public image and creating confusion among the public.
On January 22, Manoj Tiwari filed a written complaint at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi, stating that an unknown person was using his name, photos, and videos without permission. He emphasized that this misuse is illegal and misleading for the public. Upon receiving the complaint, the Cyber Police conducted a preliminary investigation.
The investigation revealed that the incident falls under the purview of Section 66C of the Information Technology Act and Section 356(3) of the Indian Penal Code. Based on these findings, an FIR has been registered at the Cyber Police Station, New Delhi.
The police have initiated the process to immediately deactivate the fake Facebook account. Investigators are working to identify the people behind this fake ID, understand their motives, and assess the extent of the impact. The police are also coordinating with Facebook to obtain necessary data and information.
The Delhi Police has issued a warning that misuse of someone’s identity, name, photo, or video on social media is a serious offence. Strict legal action is taken in such cases, and offenders face stringent penalties. The police have urged the public to remain cautious about suspicious accounts and report any such cases promptly to the Cyber Cell.
