New Delhi, May 3: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi shared her vision on Saturday to transform the national capital from merely a transit point into a prominent global tourist destination.
Addressing a conference for tourism stakeholders, Gupta emphasized that it is time to establish Delhi as a destination city where tourists can stay longer, immerse themselves in experiences, and return repeatedly.
During the event, she engaged with stakeholders on various topics, including tourism and hospitality, heritage, spiritual, digital, medical, health tourism, and night tourism, while discussing Delhi’s branding.
The conference was attended by Delhi’s Minister for Art, Culture, and Tourism, Kapil Mishra, the Managing Director of the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), and several experts from the tourism and related sectors.
Gupta noted that active participation from industry stakeholders, policymakers, and experts has yielded numerous concrete and practical suggestions. She stated that these insights will be incorporated into upcoming policies and plans to give a new direction to Delhi’s tourism sector and enhance its effectiveness.
Highlighting Delhi’s global significance as the national capital, the Chief Minister mentioned the city’s potential to become a major attraction for international tourists visiting India.
She underscored the tourism-related features of the city, referencing iconic institutions such as the Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, and the Prime Minister’s Museum, along with rich historical sites like the Red Fort and Qutub Minar.
Gupta also emphasized Delhi’s diverse culture and cuisine, which together offer a comprehensive and unique tourism experience.
The Chief Minister stated that the government is focused on building a positive image of Delhi, aiming to develop it not only as a tourism hub but also as a center of excellence in medical and educational fields.
