Ranchi, April 19 โ€” Jharkhand is currently experiencing an unusual weather pattern, with scorching heat during the day followed by a noticeable chill at night. Mixed Weather Conditions in Ranchi

Residents of Ranchi witnessed rapidly changing weather on Friday, with intense sunshine giving way to dark clouds, followed by sudden rainfall and hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted a drop in daytime temperatures, with Ranchi recording a maximum of 32.4ยฐC, below the seasonal average.

The drop in temperatures stands in sharp contrast to April 2024, when parts of Jharkhand saw temperatures crossing 40ยฐC, including Godda, which reached 44ยฐC on April 24, 2024. In comparison, this yearโ€™s April 19 reading in Godda was a significantly cooler 25.5ยฐC.

Statewide Temperature Overview

Unlike previous years, no heatwave conditions have been reported so far in 2025 across key districts. Hereโ€™s how some major towns in Jharkhand fared on Saturday:

  • Jamshedpur: 34.6ยฐC

  • Daltonganj: 39.6ยฐC

  • Bokaro: 31.5ยฐC

  • Ranchi: 32.4ยฐC

IMD officials say the temperature dip and sporadic rain are likely due to local convection and atmospheric instability, possibly influenced by a western disturbance affecting northern and eastern India.

Temperature Drop Compared to Last Year

In April 2024, as many as 10 districts in Jharkhand recorded temperatures above 40ยฐC, including:

  • East Singhbhum: 43.7ยฐC

  • Pakur & Seraikela-Kharsawan: 43.4ยฐC

  • Sahibganj: 41.4ยฐC

  • Jamtara: 41.9ยฐC

  • Palamu: 41.2ยฐC

  • Garhwa & Deoghar: 41.1ยฐC

  • Simdega: 40.2ยฐC

  • West Singhbhum: 40.6ยฐC

This year, however, not a single district has touched the 40ยฐC mark yet, with even the typically hot regions like Daltonganj staying below 40ยฐC.

Looking Ahead

According to the IMD, Jharkhand will continue to experience moderate temperatures and isolated showers over the coming days. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts as localized weather disturbances could lead to more rainfall, hail, or gusty winds.
