Bengaluru, May 21: D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, dismissed rumors regarding a leadership change in the state on Wednesday. He questioned why former Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna was raising the issue of removing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Rajanna’s comments have gained significance as he is a close ally of Siddaramaiah and supports the idea of a Dalit chief minister in the event of a leadership shift in Karnataka.
G. Parameshwara is a prominent Dalit leader. Rajanna was removed from the cabinet following controversial remarks that contradicted Rahul Gandhi’s statement about ‘vote theft.’
Rajanna indirectly accused Shivakumar of being behind this development. In response to media inquiries about Rajanna’s statement suggesting that Home Minister G. Parameshwara should be made chief minister if a change occurs, Shivakumar sarcastically asked, “Why is Rajanna talking about changing the chief minister?”
He stated that there is nothing wrong with allowing the current chief minister to remain in office. However, if Rajanna believes Parameshwara should take over, does that imply the current chief minister should resign? “I have never said the chief minister should be changed. Rajanna is the one talking about changing the chief minister. You should ask him about it,” Shivakumar added.
When questioned whether Rajanna’s comments stemmed from dissatisfaction over his unfulfilled demands, Shivakumar claimed he was unaware of the matter.
Regarding unresolved issues related to the Apex Bank and Karnataka Milk Federation, Shivakumar declined to comment and urged journalists to seek clarification from the chief minister.
Responding to ongoing speculation about cabinet expansion and demands for ministerial positions from legislators, he noted that the chief minister has already stated that a cabinet expansion will occur. “You should ask him about it,” he concluded.
