New Delhi, April 6: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continue to struggle in IPL 2026. On Sunday, they faced a disappointing 43-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This marked CSK’s third loss in the season’s first three matches. After the game, former cricketers Aaron Finch and Ambati Rayudu raised concerns about CSK’s strategy.
Former Australian captain Aaron Finch questioned CSK’s tactics and the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad during a discussion on ESPN Cricinfo. He expressed disappointment with Gaikwad’s performance as captain, emphasizing that the issue lies not only in the planning but also in its execution. When both the strategy and implementation fail, it becomes a significant concern for the team.
Finch specifically pointed out Jamie Overton’s bowling, noting that he consistently bowled around the wicket without any adjustments being made. In high-pressure situations, both the captain and the team must make quick decisions.
Ambati Rayudu, a former CSK player, echoed these sentiments, stating that the team remained fixated on a poor strategy without attempting to change it. He suggested that CSK needed to slow down the game occasionally to reassess their tactics.
Rayudu also highlighted the lack of experience in CSK’s bowling and poor follow-up deliveries as key factors in their defeat. He believes that good death bowlers manage to bounce back after conceding runs, something CSK’s bowlers failed to do.
RCB scored 153 runs for 3 wickets in 15 overs and amassed 97 runs in the final five overs, putting CSK under immense pressure. Bowlers like Khaleel Ahmed, Noor Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Jamie Overton conceded runs heavily during this phase.
After losing the toss, RCB batted first and posted a total of 250 runs for 3 wickets. CSK collapsed for 207 runs in 19.4 overs, resulting in a 43-run loss. With three consecutive defeats, CSK currently sits at the bottom of the points table.
