CRPF jawan killed in Srinagar; Kashmiri Pandit, non-locals shot at in south Kashmir

Srinagar, April 4 : Attacks on security forces and civilians took an ugly turn on Monday, as a personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed, while another was wounded in a militant attack in the city centre, while a Kashmiri Pandit and two non-local labourers were fired upon in two separate attacks in south Kashmir. Officials said a CRPF jawan was killed and another injured in a broad daylight attack at Maisuma area of Srinagar. They said militants fired at two CRPF personnel at around 3:30 pm, wounding them critically. “The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. One of the injured CRPF men succumbed to his injuries,” an official said. The slain CRPF jawan has been identified as head constable Vishal Kumar. A Police spokesman said forces exercised maximum restraint due to the huge rush of people and to avoid any civilian causality. Soon after the shooting, joint forces launched a massive hunt to nab the attackers. J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and political parties have condemned the attack on CRPF in Srinagar. “Strongly condemn dastardly terror attack on civilians & CRPF personnel. My deepest condolences to family of martyred HC Vishal Kumar & prayers for early recovery of injured. Our security forces will give a befitting reply to perpetrators of despicable attacks,” the office of LG said in a tweet. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said, “This senseless violence doesn’t yield anything apart from inflicting miseries on the innocent families of those killed. “Unreservedly condemn the cowardly attack in Maisuma, Srinagar earlier in the day, in which one CRPF personnel lost his life. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Prayers for the swift recovery of the one injured,” the National Conference tweeted. A i Party President Altaf Bukhari said the cycle of violence is despicable and would further worsen the state of miseries. “It only leaves one in inevitable loss and adds on to our collective sufferings,” said Bukhari in a statement. Earlier in the day, two non-local labourers were shot and injured in Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Officials said the militants attacked two non local labourers identified as Patleshwar Kumar and Jakku Chaudhary, residents of Bihar at Lajoora area of Pulwama. “Both the labourers received gunshot injuries and were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment, where their condition is stated to be stable,” the spokesman said. Soon after the incident, security forces launched a hunt to nab the attackers. On Sunday evening, two labourers identified as Dheeraj Dutt and Surinder Singh, both residents of Pathankot Punjab, were fired upon at Nowpora Litter area of Pulwama. This evening, a Kashmiri Pandit identified as Bal Krishan was fired upon near his house at Choutigam Shopian in south Kashmir wounding him critically. “In this terror incident, he had received critical gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of his injuries,” added the spokesman.
