Guwahati, April 6: The battle for the Assam Assembly elections is heating up. Both the ruling party and the opposition are launching verbal attacks against each other. In this context, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has demanded the Election Commission disqualify Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Karat, a member of the CPI(M) Politburo, spoke to the media, stating, “Our candidate will win the Bajali seat by a large margin. Himanta Biswa Sarma is bulldozing the Constitution, which is not only against Muslims but also against the Adivasis and Dalits, who are common citizens of Assam. He is robbing them of all their rights. Recent reports suggest that Sarma has looted our country, and his wife holds three passports. He owns two properties in Dubai and one in America. According to our country’s laws, candidates must declare their assets in their nomination papers, but Sarma has deceived the law and the people of Assam. He has amassed wealth by exploiting the poor.”
Karat insisted that the Election Commission should disqualify Sarma, adding, “The public will disqualify him in this election anyway.”
In response to Sarma’s claims about the passports being fake, Karat remarked, “No criminal admits to their wrongdoing. If the passports are fake, then what about the millions in assets and companies abroad? Therefore, he should be disqualified according to the law, and morally, the Chief Minister should resign from his position.”
Regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam, Karat stated, “Wherever the Prime Minister goes, he brings a machine for fabricating lies. If he cannot run industries, he operates a factory of falsehoods.”
Karat also claimed that the BJP will not form the government in Assam this time.
