Court Hearing on 1984 Sikh Riots Case Involves Kamal Nath, Manjinder Singh Sirsa Vows to Fight for Justice

New Delhi court hears case involving Kamal Naths alleged role in 1984 Sikh riots. Manjinder Singh Sirsa pledges to pursue justice for victims.

New Delhi, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi High Court conducted a hearing on Friday regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. During the session, Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa called for action against Congress leader Kamal Nath, citing his alleged involvement in the case related to Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Sirsa stated, “Today, I presented my petition in the Delhi High Court regarding the alleged role of Congress leader Kamal Nath during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for November 30.”

He emphasized, “While Congress may wish to erase the memory of the 1984 incident, the families of the victims are demanding justice. No political stature can shield anyone from accountability, nor can decades of delay erase their suffering. I have unwavering faith in the judiciary. I will continue this fight until justice is served.”

This case follows the February sentencing of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment. Kumar was convicted for the burning alive of two Sikh citizens, Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh, in the Saraswati Vihar area of Delhi on November 1, 1984.

Initially, a police report was filed at the Punjabi Bagh police station. Subsequently, a special investigation team was established based on the recommendations of the Justice GP Mathur Committee, which suggested reopening 114 cases, including this one. On December 16, 2021, the court framed charges against Sajjan Kumar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 147, 148, and 149, as well as sections 302, 308, 323, 395, 397, 427, 436, and 440.
