New Delhi, May 17: In a remarkable achievement, Cooper Connolly, playing for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, has set a new record for the most sixes hit by a batsman in a debut season.
Connolly has scored 473 runs in 12 innings across 13 matches, including one century and two half-centuries. His batting average stands at 47.30, with an impressive strike rate of 162.54. He has established himself as an explosive player, hitting 39 fours and 32 sixes so far. In a recent match against RCB, Connolly scored 37 runs off just 22 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours. His third six marked his 32nd of the season, making him the record holder for the most sixes in a debut season.
With this achievement, Connolly has surpassed the previous record held by Sanath Jayasuriya, who hit 31 sixes during the inaugural IPL season in 2008 while playing for Mumbai Indians.
Additionally, Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk had hit 28 sixes while playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. Finn Allen, who debuted in IPL 2026 for KKR, has also made an impact with 27 sixes. He still has at least two league matches left, which could allow him to challenge Connolly’s record. Connolly has one match remaining, and both KKR and Punjab’s chances of reaching the playoffs are now slim.
Shane Marsh, who played for Kings XI Punjab in 2008, hit 26 sixes and is considered a role model by Connolly.
