Controversial Film Corrupt Priest Faces Ban After Community Backlash

New Delhi, February 8: Pankaj Chaudhary, the President of the Uttar Pradesh BJP, expressed gratitude to the central government on Sunday for taking swift action against the controversial film ‘Corrupt Priest.’ The film’s title was deemed offensive to the sentiments of the Brahmin community.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role.

In a message on social media, Chaudhary stated that the title ‘Corrupt Priest’ undermines the reputation, respect, and collective emotions of the Brahmin community. He emphasized that they had urged the central government to intervene and remove the objectionable title immediately.

Chaudhary noted that prioritizing social harmony and public sentiments, the central government took prompt action by ordering the immediate removal of the film’s teaser and all promotional materials. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the central government for accepting their just and fact-based demand.

He further stated that the Brahmin community has always played a vital role as carriers of knowledge, scholarship, culture, and moral values.

He highlighted that their sacrifices, penance, and intellectual contributions in preserving the Vedas, scriptures, and eternal traditions have been honored and respected by society for centuries.

Previously, in response to the backlash over the film’s title, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the Hazratganj police in Lucknow to file an FIR against it.

According to the Lucknow police, strict action was taken following allegations of disturbing social harmony and hurting religious and caste sentiments.

The police reported that there was significant outrage and anger within the Brahmin community and various social organizations due to the film’s name and content. These organizations have also warned of aggressive protests against the film.

The police further stated that, given the seriousness of the matter, legal action and investigations are ongoing. Under the zero-tolerance policy, strict measures will be taken against anyone intending to hurt the sentiments of any community or disrupt peace.
