Bengaluru, 19 August (Kiran News). Continuous rainfall in the coastal and Malnad districts of Karnataka has disrupted normal life. People are facing major difficulties in commuting, and as a precaution, schools have been closed. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning to fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Districts experiencing heavy rainfall include Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for these districts for the next five days, as winds are likely to blow at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. Fishermen in these areas have been warned not to go to the sea.
The department has also issued an orange alert for two days for Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Raichur, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Koppal districts. A yellow alert has been declared for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru districts.
School and College Holidays
Due to the forecast of heavy rainfall, the state government has announced holidays in eight taluks of Belagavi district, all schools and colleges in Dharwad district, and some other districts including Hassan and Udupi.
Flood in Tungabhadra River
Continuous rainfall in the Malnad region has led to the release of one lakh cusecs of water from the Tungabhadra reservoir. As a result, the Kampli bridge in Ballari district has submerged, cutting off the connection between Ballari and Gangavati. Police have put up barricades and issued warnings to villagers living along the river to avoid any untoward incidents.
Bennethora Reservoir at Risk in Kalaburagi
The Bennethora reservoir in Kalaburagi district has reached 85 percent capacity, and 3,050 cusecs of water have been released as a precaution. This has increased the risk of flooding in Hebbal and nearby villages. The administration has appealed to people in rain and flood-affected districts to remain alert.
