Kolkata, April 8: The Congress Party has officially released its election manifesto ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections. The manifesto promises financial assistance of ₹2,000 per month for women. Senior party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir stated that the manifesto was crafted with the needs of the people of Bengal in mind.
In a media interaction in Kolkata, Mir emphasized the importance of listening to public suggestions and implementing them. “We have not merely copied from a book. We have not just rehashed old points from previous manifestos. This document reflects the current sentiments of the youth, elders, brothers, sisters, traders, and laborers of West Bengal,” he explained.
He further mentioned that all key points have been summarized into five guarantees.
Regarding Congress’s decision to contest the elections independently, Mir noted that this was a collective opinion of the people. “This is not just a decision of Ghulam Ahmad Mir or any other leader. We have been engaging with the public for the past year, providing them with various options. We consulted our workers openly, not behind closed doors. Based on their feedback, it became clear that we should contest the elections on our own strength, build our cadre, and prepare our leadership. It is essential for strengthening the Congress Party in Bengal,” he added.
During the manifesto launch, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the party is contesting all seats in Bengal after a long time, aiming to provide the people with a new option. The manifesto, titled “Relief for the People” and “Development for Bengal,” includes promises such as ₹2,000 monthly for women, ₹15,000 annually for farmers, ₹1 million in health insurance, job opportunities for youth, and plans for AI centers in every district.
